Romania has been an EU Member State since 2007, Romanian Citizenship therefore, is an EU citizenship, bearing all rights and benefits.

Romanian law enabled descendants of Romanian citizens, even if born outside of Romania to apply for Romanian Citizenship. The criteria is fairly straight forward and reasonable, however, the challenge lies in providing documentation and certification proving the family ties and links to the ancestors. Searching the archives of Romania and Moldova are more complicated and time consuming. A further problem is matching the spelling of the names of the applicants and ancestors, which must correspond to those as appear in the said documents proving entitlement. These challenges can be overcome, however, diligent attention, perseverance and patience are required.
