Greece has been an EU Member State since 1975, Greek Citizenship therefore, is an EU citizenship, bearing all rights and benefits.

Greek law allows for descendants of Greek citizens to be granted Greek citizenship. The problem is that Greece does not have a central archive, in which the relevant documents proving entitlement can be found, rather, local, municipal or regional archives must be searched. It is therefore necessary to know the names of the towns and cities from which the ancestors originated as well as their dates of birth.

Waivers of Greek Citizenship signed by ancestors can prove challenging, through in most cases, theses issues can be resolved.
